I have a 1986 Century Riviera 5 meter. I bought this boat last week and after a long weekend of boat, all four days:) on the last day when I returned home and was emptying out the towels empty pop cans and other boating parefanailia. I noticed a soft spot in the floor... I didn't catch it while looking at buying it... so pulled out the rear bench seat and tore up the carpet. This is where it really starts to get bad:( the floor is rotted pretty bad so I took out the rest of the interior and started to rip up the floor the foam is soaked. the most of the exposed wood is soaked and starting to rot. Every thread I have read says this is not a bad project and that it is too expensive to pay someone to do. How much for a 16' foot boat? The transom IS solid. and the boat is in good shape in every other aspect. I love this boat and it is not going to the junk yard if I can help it!!! any advice or sugestions would be very welcome. Any good marine shops around my area?

Thanks

PS I am in west Michigan Holland GR area.

Re: Help!!! Rotted floors stringers ETC!!!

Thanks for the response. But has anyone out there ever paid someone to do this job. I called around and have been told anything from a $1000 :) to $10,000  (one place said it would be a 40 to 60 hour job does that sound right? I could see if you had never done one before but a pro? seems long...) I wouldn't mind doing the project myself but I don't have a good place to work on it... as I live in an apartment :( I have done plenty of fiberglass work. So it hurts to pay someone but I may have to if I want to keep my boat on the water. Thanks.

Can you rent a storage unit and do the job there?

I just paid someone here in Maryland to do mine. One place wanted 4000.00 and another place wanted 2500. I got a third estimate and chose him. The bildge bulkhead, one 8ft. stringer, custom fuel tank from RDS Aluminium (FL) and new deck ran me 2300.00 with lifetime warranty. Can't complain.

Hello m8..

seeing as Im in MI .. and worked in your area I prob know at least one of those shops..

Yup its hard to get away from 100 bucks/hr. unless you find a trunk slammer.

40 hrs is a tad bit long..however its " WHO is the tech " working for said shops. how quick is he.. what tools does he have.. product knowledge.. etc.

For a good tech.. carpet down and all..30 hrs..

For a "eh" tech.. that could do a great job .. but not too much experience.. 40 + X 90/hr .. you get the picture.

Thats what iboats is all about.. DIY. ( just use proper safety equip please ! )

YD.

Thanks for all the reply's I found a local reputable shop that is going to do the work. $2000-$2600 for floor and stringers $3000-$3500 if it needs a transom. but that is unlikely(knock on wood). The price coupled with a life time warranty made it impossible to turn down.
