1992 Celebrity 4.3L V6 Went out today and ran for about 15 minutes and engine started pinging and knocking so I shut it off. Engine dieseled for about 20 seconds after the switch was turned off, I guess due to high temps in the block. Got a tow back and after engine cooled down it started right up. The temp guage showed 150 F and no higher. Why would the block temp climb so high but not register on the temp sensor (yes the guage is right, already checked)? The hose from the therm. housing leading to the circ. pump was extremely hot but the hose from the raw pump was cool. Riser hoses were cool so I know they were flowing water. Could a bad head gasket cause this problem and not get water in the oil? This is very puzzling.

Pull the engine circ pump, remove the rear cover and look, i`m betting the shaft is broken.

Thermostat has been changed and it works because the temp on the sensor never got over 150F. The circ. pump does squeal at times like the bearing is going bad but it only does it at idle when the engine is cold. Ive checked it before and shafts not broken from what i can tell. Could it be sucking air and cavitating if it has a bad bearing?

Re: Help running hot!

Is it the pump shaft bearing that is squealing or the belt?
