i have fixed half of the problem though, i recently rebuilt my Quadrajet because it would not idle and it boggs down when advancing the throttle quickly, but the latter is still apparent. I'm not sure what to try now. any advice would be greatly appreciated. when advancing the throttle slowly for normal boating it is compleetly fine and will rev up to the limiter. but when, Say.. Pulling up skiers quickly advancing the throttle to max she "chokes" and sputters. she's a 89 5.7 mercruiser, I\O, bayliner 21', and she's a bute! I just had the upholstery completely redone and i replaced the floor and reglased the floor. applied vertglas gel coat restore, THIS STUFF WorKS GREAT! anyone have any similar experiences with helpful suggestions?

Check to see if distributor is advancing. Had same issues with an older boat ad found the advance weights stuck...
