Help! Taking water in!

Hi Everybody. Mercruiser Alpha one. Just put the boat in the water and found a slow leakage in the transom plate area. The water accumulates in that little chamber where hydraulic hoses go in, and drips into the boat. First thought that it is leaking thru the hydraulic manifold gasket. Re-sealed that area properly, but still leaks. No metter engine runs or not. Any ideas, Y-pipe perhaps? Thanks in advance.

Could be anything down there, or even the water is running down from someplace higher up the transom shield.
You have to find where it's coming in at, we can't see it. All we can do is guess.

U-joint bellows are brand new, just installed. Although doesn't mean much. But wouldn't it take a while for water to get thru gimbal bearing and oil seal? I can feel that chamber filling up pretty fast with my finger. I can se the little stream of water within 10 min. I looked from the top as much as I could, and cant se anything from the top. The water intake pipe definetely not leaking.

With the boat out of the water, dry everything off real good. Spay it with talcom power. Put it in the water and follow the streaks.

PS:
A digital camara aimed at things you can't see can reveal a lot of things.

Not that I am aware of.
To find some leaks, I remove the engine. Put the drive back on. Plug the exhaust Y inside. Back the boat down in the water strapped to the trailer and look for leaks.
Amazing what you can see with that engine out of the way.

The camara is a lot easier.
