Yes, the ethanol raises the octane rating while lowering BTU's, quite a feat.

It was probably the salt water. If you dip your motor in for more than 15 minutes without rinsing, it will all fall apart. Especially a frsh-water Yamaha.

If not that, the most likely the transom saver caused the dolphin doelfin to degrade. or not having enough chain on your anchor line.

I fogot about the galvanic molecular level transom saver to fin reaction, yikes. Only depleted uranium is worse from what I understand.
