I need some help guys. I'm pretty aggravated. I just received my used tilt motor. I tested it on the batt and it worked. I hooked the pump housing back up, hoses, solenoid, wired it like service manual says, and filled it w/oil.

It won't do anything but click the solenoid  I tested the motor wires to the batt and it won't do anything but spark at the wires. I tested the solenoid w/volt meter and it is getting juice in and out. So I go and buy a new one just like it from O'Reilly auto Parts anyway. Hook that one up and it just clicks

The one thing that doesn't seem right to me is how the green wires are supposed to be hooked up. Green from motor and green from plug are supposed to be hooked together at a terminal block
The only way I see to hook these green wires up is both at a screw on the motor/pump housing that is a plastic thing with a couple of screws.

I don't know what to do

Any advice will be appreciated. (Iknow, I know; I need to calm down, I'm done working on it for tonight)

EDIT: The battery has a good charge. With no load it has over 12 volts. With the tilt button pushed it drops to 11.5 volts.

maybe you have the wires mixed around and all it is doin is sucking you battery life.It could also be that yout tilt button is bad.

Well unless the Merc Service manual wiring schematic is wrong, I have everything hooked up right.
But I would like the solenoid schematic to double check. Send to williamtodd@eatel.net

Thanks

Re: HELP! -----TILT MOTOR -----MERC 1150

Well,

I think its a pump problem. I moved the motor shaft in the pump and the down button worked for a few seconds, then stopped. Then the up button worked, and the motor was spinning, but no lift. I moved the shaft in the pump again, and turned the armature by hand until it sounded and felt like it was turning the pump. I hooked it back up and now its doing the same thing as it was always doing, solenoid just clicking.

I don't really know quiet what to picture your unit to look like but if it can be taken apart then you can do so and clean everything real good and see if it will work
just a thought

hey..I just went through the same heck as you!!

From my recent experience, IF electrically, it tests-out....and you have battery voltage from the silenoid....(with trim button up AND down....)then it is the electric pump. Mine would work real good, then so-so, then REALLY good, then not at all...
the motor had several issues.....open in the armature, brushes were shot....about 75.00 later, we HAVE trim & tilt !!
