I was working on the power head removing the starter and I had the lower unit off to change the impeller when this part fell off the motor. At first I thought it came from the starter, then I thought it might have something to do with the electric box and now it looks as if it fits into an opening on the bottom of the mid leg but I am missing the part of the manual that shows that parts of the bottom of the mid leg. can someone help me please.

That's the part of the reverse lock that fits into slots in the mid-section. Was it pretty greasy when it hit the floor? I use marine grease to keep it in place when fitting the lower unit.

GA_Boater, Yup part # 11 it centers the gearshift rod, from your picture I see the correct way to install it it can be installed upside down and yes it was greasy

yzf125, great manual, how can I download that, it is much better then mine, but it is for the 2 cylinder model and there are differences

Thanks both of you

You can't download BoatInfo manuals. All you can is print of pages once you find the manual for your motor. It has to do with Merc copyrights.

That piece is used to raise the reverse lock rod. If you drop it on the shift shaft on reverse lock cam, you can see how it has to mesh and which side goes up..

Om my motor it keeps the shift rod centered for installation of the lower unit and it shifts by rotating, my shift road is a splined shaft, male into female and of course if something can go wrong it will, when we reinstalled the lower unit it took a lot of juggling and wiggling and moving things to get it to go in and it ended up that the throttle in neutral was actually in gear, now we gotta drop the lower unit and fix that, I gotta drain both carb fuel bowls I think I have water in them, the engine will not idle now.

Those Boat info manuals are terrific, thanks for that tip, I did find my exact motor on there and my neighbor has a 70 HP Evinrude in his fishing boat with issues I am gonna go and tell him about it.

Thjanks again
