Hello,

I pulled by boat out of the water today and noticed this rubber hose (looks like it was spliced previously) broken in have. Can anyone tell me what it is? The hose comes out of the motor`s lower unit on that fitting and goes up inside. Sorry don't know much about these. It is a 2007 Mercury 90HP Optimax.

I think that is for your speedometer. The coupler is used to tie the hose from the motor to the speedo hose, boat-side.

Probably too brittle to tie 'em in a knot, so get a tubing coupler at any hardware store.
The hoses are two different sizes so I got a vacuum carb kit at a local parts store with two different fittings on the ends, hope that works. Does it hurt if water gets in that line?

Water does get in the hose and it pressurizes air in the hose to move the speedometer needle. The hose is not water filled, only the end closest to the pickup on the motor's lower unit.
