Hi... I have a 78 Evinrude 140. Lately, if you drop back to the neutral position, the prop still turns. To truly get it into neutral you have to pull back into reverse just a tiny bit, then go forward again to the neutral position. Sometimes you have to try this several times to get it into neutral. This is a real safety issue, so I wonder if someone could help me out. Do I need to replace a cable? Adjust something somewhere? Lube something... ?

Thanks!!

Could be all of the above! :D Or perhaps as simple as adjusting the linkage at the box and/or motor. Your manual should have clear instructions on how to accomplish this.

Thanks. The manual isn't very helpful with this... talks about adjusting tension, but not much about this. I'm going to have a poke around a little and maybe I can come back with more information (or even figure it out for myself!! yeah...right!)

Thanks again.
