I am currently in the midst of changing the water pump in my alpha one drive. I drained all the gear oil and split the drive. When I split The drive though a small amount of gear oil dribbled out of where the shaft enters the top of the drive, is this normal and am I safe to put it back together. There was no water in the gear oil, except there was some at the base of the resevoir by the motor, im assuming just condensation from over time. Any thoughts??

Not having any water in the drive was a good sign. But you should pressure test the drive before you refill it. Have a look in the Adults Only sticky at the beginning of this forum there is a ton if great info in there, including how to make a pressure tester and test the drive for any leaks.

Here's a link to it:

If it`s the Alpha, it should not show signs of oil leakage, It it`s the Alpha GEN II , it will leak when split.

It is a gen 2 so I'm not worried then. One other thing though the kit I got came with three gaskets, the one that goes under the plaite the one that goes on top, and another one that looks similar to the one that goes under but with different slots. - didn't use that one cause there was none like that that came out when I took it apart. I'm assuming the kit is used for other legs also?? Would this be correct.
and is it normal to get a tiny bit of water to dribble out the small hole where you split the leg when you have the muffs on it??

Thanks, Jon
