Help us find out the year of our Evinrude Motor

Hi,

We have an older Evinrude 6hp motor. We are trying to find out what year it is so we can get some parts for it. We can not find any plates or anything with a serial number or model number on it. Can any one please help us with finding what year our motor is or where can we look to try to tell the year? There is a number on the flywheel, but I'm not sure if this will help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to eBay and search for Evinrude 6Hp or 8Hp. Sooner or later one will show up that looks like yours. Hopefully they list the model number. We can help with that. Don't necessarily rely on the year they claim.

Thank you very much for all of your help. We will try to get a picture of our motor with the cover on and off. We are also going to look on Ebay for a motor similiar looking to ours.

Try this site http://www.old-omc.de/ Select "Now come in and take a look", then "Miscellaneous" on the left, then "Catalog overview". You'll see the Evinrude catalogs through 1975. Browse and see if your motor is there. If it's newer than 1975, this site won't help.

Another possibility is epc.brp.com That site doesn't seem to be up at the moment, but when it is, drill down to whatever year you think yours might be and take a look at the illustration of the cowl. It may help.

The plug on the block has this number:

M (there is a M above the number, not sure if you need that)
6505R J0002577
