im not sure its the same as on my 1985 but here goes remove the lower unit and prop remove shifter shaft (mine just unscrewed)at the front of the unit down inside is a nut remove it remove the end cap and bearing at the prop shaft (BE VERY CAREFUL THE CAP WILL BREAK)the other nut is just inside the gear box remove it and if the force is with you it should come right off replace ALL seals O rings and gaskets now would be a good time to replace the impeller too (you all ready have the lower unit off ) hope this helps Rick
