Help wire for tach 79 Evinrude 35 HP Pics!

Need information dumbed down for me. LOL

Looks like I can buy a universal tachometer at almost any sporting goods store. Have not purchased yet. Maybe it will have ez to read instructions making install a breeze. So if anyone has placed a tachometer on there boat and would like to get me on the right track...info will be appreciated.

Here are pictures that may help you. What I understand so far (i think) is I have to place a wire on motor for a send, hot wire, ground wire, and one for the ignition switch.

since yours looks like it has 3 yellow wires i would put money on the yellow wires next to the red wires......... unless someone deliberately changed them up thats where the grey wire usually hooks in.

Have yet to take boat out and check my new tachometer on the water, however it appears I have a successful install. The tachometer goes to zero when I turn on the ignition. I wired the guage light to come on when the navigation lights are turned on. And yes I tweaked the motor and watched the guage needle move. Here are a few pictures.

Tachometers come in many flavors. Is the one you bought specifically for your engine or is it a generic Sierra brand?

Tachometers come in many flavors. Is the one you bought specifically for your engine or is it a generic Sierra brand?

I bought it at Bass Pro. $70.00 total. It is a marine tach, has differnet settings on the back to match the poles. Mine has 10 poles...setting 5. Teleflex brand. Should work with about any inboard/outboard
