Help with 20 foot 76' Reinell w/150 HP Mercury

Hello

I am new to this site and looking for some input on a 20 foot 76' Reinell Tri-hull with a 150 HP Mercury. It is currently stored indoors and has been for approximately 6 years. The last time it was in the water was between 2000 and 2001. I have the opportunity to get this boat for fairly cheap and would like to see if anyone has some input on concerns or things to look for on the boat. I have heard alot of people talking about wood rotting out but the floor seemed solid to me. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

any and all maintenance records,for one, will the motor run?, try to get it in the water before you buy. there is a very detailed post about waking a sleeping outboard in the outboard section that will help you to get started. If you dont know much about boats find someone who does and take them with you, even if its someone you have to pay, it will be money well spent.

Is this a northern boat? (freezing issues)
Salt water or Fresh? (corrosion issues)
Ran motor with muffs lately?(overheating issue)
Old fuel in carbs?(carb rebuild)

notice we haven t gotten to the boat itself yet

There is lot to look for thats why I suggest you take someone with you who knows.
This forum is wonderful, I wish I had read it for a month before I got mine, but I have learned the hard way.

All good and import points. sitting 6 years, i would take the plugs out and tilt the engine all the way up, and put marvel mystery oil in each cylinder. let it sit for a day or 2. this is to lube up the rings. then lower the motor, and clean up excess oil. now turn the flywheel over by hand, so you get thru all the cylinder, and clean up oil. then you can consider firing it up.

the impeller is going to have to be changed before you ever put it in the water.

as far as the boat is concerned. a rubber mallot works well to tap all over the transom, solid wood is a sharp rap, rotten is a thud. also with the moter tilted up. grab the lower unit and shake hell out of it up and down. watch the transom for any flex. you don't want flex.

I appreciate all of your responses!!! Any idea on a worst case scenario if the floor is rotted and/or the motor needs overhauled, is it worth even considering? I am going to take a closer look at it this weekend.

Bring a digital camera with you and take lots of pictures & post em here with any questions. You will get a lot better input with pictures.
