Re: Help with 70 hp evinrude

Could that last zero be a D? They added those suffixes if there was a mid-year change. Most changes were quite minor. But not always. I had a 1970 60Hp. They added a Clipper to the ignition system. Mine didn't have one, but I got an entire ignition system from a motor with a D suffix and it did.

Re: Help with 70 hp evinrude

Thank you for the replys OBJ and Willy.

Yes, you are right, the zero is a D. If it helps, it is painted with a military green color with black hood. I don't know, maybe one of the previous owners painted it themselves those colors. I was thinking it may have been a navy seal motor or something.

I am not familiar with your term "clipper" regarding the ignition It has three coils, stator, and what may be a cdi box?

My 13 yr old nephew got this motor for fixing a lawnmower for his neighborWe got it to run, good compression, but carbs need a good cleaning. Should be a good motor for him. I just want to be sure I have the right year before ordering carb kits, and impeller, etc.

Thanks again for any help.

Yep...right year Mike...the D indicates the model run.

You may want to condider a service manual to help you with the maint. work. You can get a generic manual right here from iboats. Just scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on repair manuals.

Good Luck with it.
