Klondike...you will find the manuals you ordered somewhat generic, but they should suffice. The original factory manuals are the best but somewhat pricey. You may want to price parts through these folks as well...they can get you OEM or aftermarket stuff...just one of many such jobbers:

FeatherweightOutboards .com

Send inquires to:

[rpm@featherweightoutboards.com]

slow_boat, First off all, than for the link and address. Looks good.
As for the manuals, the first place I looked was here (iboats), then ebay, then Amazon. Amazon is where I found 'em.
I have had absolutely no luck trying to find my way through the "New & Improved" Evinrude web site. Guess bad things happen after bankrupsie.
Anyway, will keep an eye&ear open for the Evinrude shop manual.

By the By, the two little motors that my wife has me workinig on (9.5Hp Lightwin and Lightning 3) are a prelude to the real project. My wife has an '85 Harris toon boat (16' deck, 20' toons) with an 85 Merc 25 on it. This past summer in some heavy chop, while running full-tilt-bozo, the screw left the water for an instant and,...OOopps! we dropped a cylinder (from 125 down to 90psi). So the big winter project will be to redo her Merc. Hope it's just a broke ring. Even at that any suggestions? Factory manual? or after market such as Seloc or CLymer?

Would you know if the 25Merc is any bit more of a Bear then the li'l Rudes? Anything special to keep in mind or look out for?

Inputs appreciated.

Thanx
Dave (Klondike 1 of 7)

klondike, kiwiboy here, I think you will discover as soon as you start working on her your merc, is definately not a bear, try a pig or a mongrel dog but definately not a bear. Anyway www.mercruiser.com can probably help you out with part nos and also whether that are still manufactured. Ps if it is rings, I suggest you look through your local phone directory or online for, piston ring manufacturers, because rental space on their stock room shelves seems to be about 75%cheaper than mercurys.
just a thought ;)
