I found two serial numbers and two Mod #'s on a tag on the engine. Maybe this will help.

Ser #
T01187478
T00699405

Mod #
302BMRPW5
986321

You don't have to replace the plug wires unless there is a problem with them. Of course if they are original it couldn't hurt.
Along with all the parts, do you know how to set the dwell, then check and reset the timing, how to check the advance timing, how to adjust the carb idlespeed and mixture? Do you know what the specs are for your engine?
There is more to a tuneup than just putting the parts in that someone says get to get.

Don-

Plug wires are as brittle as straw. Yes they need to be replaced.

Yes, I can adjust the idle screw.

Yes, I can adjust needle valves to prevent running to rich or to lean.

Thanks for your concern. I'm a product of the electronic fuel injection engine. I tune and adjust a/f ratio, rev limiters, shifting and idle with my laptop.

Good thing my dad is still around to show me the ways of 'old school' tuning for adjusting dwell and timing.

Got a look today for the first time at a timing gun and dwell meter... shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for your post.

I was told today that my mod # showed I didn't have points or a dwell to set? Got me...

Sounds like you have the Delco EST distributor in your engine. Don't forget, that distributor has to be put into base timing mode in order to set the timing.
