Have a 18hp elect. start Mercury ,( Ser # 06113356 ) Have found out that this motor is very hard to get parts for. Compression in each cylinders 125,check cylinder walls and piston with light, had carb redone , still need to get a needle looking for one. Had a friend do the carb and check it out and help get it running , will not idle at all and poops or kicks back, he show me where it is getting air or leaking in the middle of power back where you split it,from what I can see there is know gasket so do you use pemratex to seal it ? He told me I could probably do it my self for about a hundred dollars, said it would take about a 4 or 5 hr to do.
Wanting to know if you think some one could do this with basic mechanic skills, do i need a manual for all torque speaks or any special tools i will need, or can I fin d peaks online.
I have about 500.00 in this motor so far, not sure how much it is wreath sens it is so hard to find parts for, dealers in this area or boat machinices get about 65.00 to 85.00 hr, not saying they don't need that much, but what i can find out it would be about 350.00 to 500.00 to have this done, this would put it at 800.00 to a 1,000 in it then so would it still be wreath this .

Have a 1982 18 hp Mercury elect start (Ser# 06113356 ) , Having problems with carb , fount lower bowl there is a jet there that screws out ,Part #1399(8323) jet , thought it was a plug and Finley found a pic of one and it is a jet , the head of it has pop off , can not find one have call all over the US and no luck , are there any carbs that will intruder change with it , or is there a way to find out the specks on it to have one made at a machine shop , any ideas would be great , don't know what else to do ?????

Side of Carb # 1364-4929
Have check with Mrecury dealer in my area, with now luck.
