I inherited a boat 7 years ago from my dad. It has been sitting in my garage since then. I am looking for what I need to do to the trailer to get the boat (that I just spent 2 weeks working on) to be able to go safely to the lake 30 miles from my house about once a week next season. The trailer is 21ft or 23ft tandem axle rated to 3,500 carrying capacity. It has surge drum brakes on the first axle. I have some experience with my pwc trailer that I received at the same time but got going last year. I have some work to do on the trailer lights-not too big of a deal, but I am worried about the brakes, brake line, and bearings. Also can someone explain what the buddy bearing means about being able to push on the end and if it moves to not add grease? I have been wondering about this on my pwc trailer too and I don't want to over fill and blow out the rear seal- but nothing seams to wiggle at all and I have 30+ hours of 65mph average of towing it since I got it fixed with no issues so??? If I need to replace the brakes does anyone recommend disk brakes? I asked because my dad always hated the brakes on the trailer since they locked up randomly a couple times plus a couple fires. Since I though of it- 3/4 of the tires have less then 200 miles on them being 8 years old-all 8 years stored in a garage so do I need to worry about dry rot? The 4th tire is low of tread and matches the spare- I figure I will replace it and just keep it as a double spare-could run over something that takes out one tandem side.
