help with a kicker choice

i want a kicker on the sb side i was told to go short shaft, am looking at a 9.9 evinrude in the morning its a short shaft 15". since i will be going at displacement speed the prop will stay below water

maybe a kicker bracket? for emergency, i can sit on the backrest and work the tiller

ok so it has been upgraded to 15hp and electric start, he still has the 9.9 parts to go with, going to look at it later this morning, if i get it next will be lookin for a jon boat

Wih a john boat the 15in. will bolt right on.
The bigger boat? That a 15" transom? The transom area doesn't look like it has a lot of room.
Take it with and see where it will fit???
The kicker bracket doesn't look like it's gonna fit without some modification.
It has to be mounted high enough so the motor won't hit the water while under way.
But if it's a good deal BUY!!!

well i bought it:joyous:i hope it fits i payed a little high but its nice and ran good it will be tight but would get me to the launch in a pinch, maybe keep it in the ski locker unless needed. i will get a jon boat with the correct transom. later, have to let this blow over with the miss first i gave $550 for it, its upgraded to 15hp and electric start

Your won't have any problems with that short shaft as your boat being a deep Vee compensates for the shaft length.

Your main problem will be clearance steering with the main motor interfering. May want to consider a connector bar between the two motors & then use the steering wheel when running the 9.9 instead of trying to steer it with the tiller, unless you cut some of the transom out to slide the kicker sideways for more clearance.

You stole the motor, in my area it would be worth double what you paid.

i watch ads constantly, it was for sale for over a month at$700, and i wondered if i offerd 500 could i get it for $550. i might move it right a inch or two there is room, post#7 photo #1 shows the big engine turned all the way, it has full movement as long as the kicker isn't flipped to the left,yes the big engine gets in the way some, post #6 pics 3 and 4 show my kickers steering range

i got to test the new kicker, top speed of 7 mph

it just spins faster over half throttle no speed increase, takes a while but gets you there

Like machinist said, I'd add a steering link and maybe take it a step further. For WAY less than a TR1 Gold, you can add remote throttle for the kicker and steer+control RPM from the drivers seat. Mine was simple to install, I just needed a journeyman fabricator neighbor to build the new kicker bracket and the custom stainless adaptors for each motor. All I had to do was install the remote and snap on the steering link. Easy!

i thought about linking the steering, but i use this with the main engine tilted up, the river is shallow this far from the dam and the skeg would hit bottom there, the kicker is slow but i can explore further. i'm thinking about maybe a separate control, or maybe invent something
