i have been looking for the age of a 50 h/p mercury blueband which i have in mind buying but the chap whos selling it does not know to much about it please help me in this matter,
the serial no, is 5446736
also please could you let me know how to get age of engines good luck from great britan

Maybe this will help - on a site I recently went through it lists merc serial numbers vs. years up to a point. On a quick look it shows a Merc 500 (50hp) with serial#'s from 5193259 - 5531629 to be 1979. You will want to verify this is what you're looking at - the page link is at www.oldmercs.com/models2.htm#77-79

blue bands will always be late 70's. as this one proves
