Hi all, first time boat owner. I just bought an aluminum Starcraft boat as a project for me and my son. Can anyone tell me where I can get some missing parts? It's seems to be missing the bow breast support and the "splash-guard" along the top of the sides. Also, the previous owner says it dates back to the 1950's, but I can't seem to find any tags. On the rear of the boat, there are (2) two plates that have a turn-buckle...what are they for?

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your help and patience,
Dave

That's a project for sure. Looks like you need some bench seats, some rail cap, a transom board, a fabricated handle/brace for the right rear corner and a fabricated bow hood. The old plates with turnbuckles look like ancient homemade trim tabs...just a guess, but what else could they be? Maybe someone else will chime in.

The two plate with turnbuckles are trim tabs, which would be adjusted to provide additional stern lift. In your case you have trunbuckles where normally you would see gas shocks. They are not usually used on small aluminum hulls like yours, but if you've got them there already they won't hurt. Help to get on plane quicker.

That hull is quite old. Have you checked it for leaks? Appears to require quite a bit of work...too bad its missing some parts. You're going to need the gunwhales and nose cap for sure to make the hull seaworthy (ie. to hold its shape).

We have a similar Starcraft hull, although a bit newer.

Good luck.

Re: Help with aluminum Starcraft boat

Guys, Thanks for the replies. I only paid $150 for the boat and trailer and like a challenge or I'm a glutten for punishment. The body appears to be water tight as it was full of water. That's why it's on the trailer backwards. It does have both rear corner supports. Does anyone have any suggestions on accessing the required parts, ie gunwale, bow hood? Would these or could these be make of wood? I'm also a woodworker, so the seats and anything made from wood is no trouble. The hull only has a few minor scratches in it that don't go deep. I intend to power spray the old paint from the inside and repaint.

Thanks again for the replies!

Dave
