Just finished up the winterizing on my 2000 Glastron GX 205 with the volvo penta 5.0 gi. My last step was pulling out my battery and charging it and I noticed its a pretty new A/C delco professonal series CAR battery rated 600 CCA and 110 RC. I'm looking for a marine replacement, how can I find the CCA size I need for the 5.0 ? or is it just preference on the deep cycle batteries? Any help would be appreciated, not having much luck online or looking at my manuals.

Re: help with battery info

Did the battery that was in it work well for you? If so then keep it. You don't have to pull it out, just disconnect the negative cable and put a battery tender on it. If the battery is more than two years old then get a new one at the beginning of next season. You'll want a combination start/deep cycle battery. Optima's blue top comes in both a combo (light gray) or deep cycle (dark grey). These tend to out last any lead acid batteries so the extra money you'll pay almost works out in the end. Interstate also makes a good marine starting battery but it's not deep cycle so won't hold up if you have a high powered stereo that you like to listen with the engine off. You should really have two batteries in that case. One would be a starting battery and the other a deep cycle with a switch and isolator.

Re: help with battery info

thanks Steve, I finally found the info out of my owners manual, I need a 650 CCA for starting this boat engine, so this car a/c delco is underrated for the 5.O l Gi. I'll see if it fits in my Tundra as it is a year old battery with a 6 year warranty. I take my battery out for a couple reasons as I store my boat in a storage garage remote from my house and I like keeping my batteries on tenders (as you said) and I can't do that from afar. I do like the combo batteries so I have all winter to save for one of those optimas!
