Help with changing water pump on a 1974 Mercury 115.

I bought a 1974 115hp that has not been in the water in 10 years. I got the moter running, but i think i need to replace the water pump. I hooked it up to my water hose and started it. I did have some water coming out of the spout but not a hard stream. Any suggestions or tips?

Before you remove the lower unit put the unit into forward gear, That is what the factory manual says to do. Do not rotate the shift shaft when you have the lower unit off.

Wouldn't hurt to change the impeller in the water pump anyway; after sitting for 10 years. Maybe some pics of the process in search if you don't have a manual. Not easy to walk you thru it verbally.

Tim, I usually put the motor into neutral, and then drop the Lower unit. You have a nut in the front, two further back (still on top), two above the prop underneath the AV plate and a bolt under the zinc above the rear of the prop. The zinc is removed with a six point 1/2" socket (3/8" drive). Remove all six fasteners, and the lower unit may be wiggled off. Grease the splines on the driveshaft and shiftshaft be fore reassembly.

water pump impeller it new . i replaced mine twice this season . it had stress in that time ,
