I was wondering if someone can help me please. I have a Chrysler 55 hp it ran great earlier this season but on one trip out it stalled at idle and would not start easy at all after that. If I kept trying I could get it to run but I only got half throttle it seemed like half power. I took off the Carb and the fuel pump and cleaned them both. I adjusted the carb to 1 1/4 turns I believe that is close to factory? Anyways if it sits for a bit it will start good and then run until I shut it off but it will not restart a second time unless I let it sit again for a long time. I am getting fuel coming out the carb after it runs a bit. I was wondering if it is flooding? Is that why it starts after sitting? I don't know I set the screw a little leaner but it makes no difference it won't start unless it sits a long time. Anyone who has advice I appreciate it very much. Thanks:confused:

What year/model#?Start with the basics.Compression,in this case do it hot and cold.Check for spark, hot and cold.Check timing.
Pull carb off and look into the reeds.Possible a valve is bad and leaking down.
Do these tests.Post your results.Ethanol and hoses.
I'm sure someone else will add something.J

Thanks for the help I have check the reeds and believe they are o.k. the hoses are old but I they don't seem that soft. I did change the diaphram gasket combo on the fuel pump could that cause issues. Thnks also how does a guy check compression kind of new to all this repair stuff.

Re: Help With Chrysler 55 Hp

sorry it took me so long to get back compression I am told is good. I have been messing with the motor and now it will start once if it sits for a while then it will dies after a bit and will not restart unless it sits for a long time. It does however sputter for a second or two everytime like it want's to start, before it would not do anything after the first start up it would only spin the starter now at least it sputters everytime i hope that's better anyways.

Thanks for the help I hope someone knows something.

What's good compression?Spark? The fuel system sounds like it needs to be looked at.Ethanol is messing with lots of motors.J
