help with crankcase fittings and nipples

I have a few nipples on the crank case cover that need to be replaced. One looks like it might be a one way valve, but air passes both ways...and it is different than the schematic i have for my motor.

my question are there any one way valves on the cover? and if so which location?

and does this blue anodized nippled look right? it doesnt show up on the parts schematic at all, but is in a place where a regular 90 degree nipple would go.

here is a rusty one near the blue one

this location doesnt show up at all on the exploded diagram....but the location of the blue one is but it has the small nippled in its location!!

the motor is a E90sleua

90 hp ocean pro ( 60 degree looper)

thanks

Re: help with crankcase fittings and nipples

The blue one is a pulse limiter fitting. it controls crankcase pulses to the OMS (fuel pump) the other looks like one of the crankcase head bearing oil scavenge/supply fittings. these are just pressed into the block. some of them are crankcase recirculation fittings. they help the engine idle better by scavenging puddled fuel out of the intake. The recirculation lines do have check valves, located on the intake body, behind the air silencer, it is either a small fitting or the actual screen itself.

I am THINKING, that the blue one isnt for the PULSE, my guess is the pulse fitting for the fuel pump is higher up...it still has the hose on it that plugs into the fuel pump!!

this blue one is lower down the cover...

this pix shows what i THINK the pulse fitting PRBABLY is to the left and still having the hose on it...the blue fitting is to the right

does that sound right??

i could be wrong...since i dont remember now what hoses when to which fitting...

put the fuel pump is mounted to the left in this pix

Re: help with crankcase fittings and nipples

did you read the OP???????????????

I actually have many pictures of the motor from all angles before i took it apart...none of them tell me if a specific nipple is a one way valve!!!

I suspect that one or more of the fittings might be for allowing air to go one way, but blocks passage the other way...

all mine seem to be open BOTH ways....so id like to replace the ones that are not supposed to allow air to go both ways...

the big blue one SEEMS like it is made to block one way...because you cant see through it... so I thought id ask, here..

but maybe i stepped on toes somewhere along the line....because it is like I got the plauge ior something when I ask a question.

but thats my tough luckj I guess

Hey Bob... On a 60 degree all elbows and fittings are "open".The blue one is the pulse fitting for the VRO/OMS pump and the one with hose and sleeve is for vapor pump, a 60 degree does not use recirc lines & valves as it uses balance tubes on manifold. See you got time to start back on engine just make sure its clean,clean,clean..how did you like the parts I sent ya??

Bob, the blue one is the pulse fitting for the vro. You can't see through it because there is actually a little reed valve inside of it. If the mtr backfires it actually closes protecting the vro.

thanks for the reply..I actually havent started it yet..but the cover is next to my bench and I have been thinking about at least replacing the one badly rusted fitting...and thought maybe I should make sure they all are good before I order..

I have heard on several threads about the recirculating fittings...

didnt know my motor didnt use them

that blue fitting has been replaced, because a lot of the thread looked busted off where it screws in..and it appeasr sealant was LIBERALLY applied

I am going to put my assemble my LU rebuild first...because that is some thing that could feasably go on the other motor this winter...

I looked at one piston, measured it...looks good...I think the used motor mount is in great shape... I am happy, thanks again for bearing with me , while I double made sure I was getting the stuff i needed.
