I purchased a 78 Galaxy with a 305 Chevy, stringer out drive. The previous owner put an HEI non marine distributor in it. I have a new Mallory breaker type distributor to put back in it but have no idea how to wire it up. I think I have everything I need, new coil, wires etc to wire it. Just don't know what wire go where. Any help?

Re: Help with distributor install

When the previous owner replaced the dizzy, he did remove the old coil and resister. The new does call for and external resister. The HEI on it now has the regular connections, switch wire, wire for the tach and the 3 way wire that connects between the tach and switch wire and the cap. Can't get a pic right now, raining. Also, I read something about resistance wire but don't if that may apply. The mallory dizzy has 1 terminal that goes to the points and condenser. About the only wire I know for sure is the tach wire goes to the neg side.

Many thanks Bubba, that is exactly what I needed. I just have to get the ballast resister and I should be good to go.

Re: Help with distributor install

I just put in another Mallory distributer ( 2 So far Now ) I would stay away from their. The module is famous for burning up. The guy from Mallory told me I should have another one as a back up ?? But their should of been a diagram in their when you bought it, I mean for 350 .00 thats atleast they can do !! Good luck !!!

might want to start your own thread with this. "walking over" someone else's is frowned upon.
