I am replacing the transom on a 14' fiberglass boat. I see all the "marine epoxys" online for upwards of 100.00 per gallon (with hardener). They usually are mixed 2:1 Resin/Hardener. Yet I see at Lowes they have 3M epoxy for 32.00 per gallon. It comes with a gallon of resin and a small tube of hardener where you just use like 20 drops of hardener per quart. Is this type of epoxy no good for boat fiberglass applications?

I'd sooner think that you're looking at Polyester Resin at Lowes,......
And Not Epoxy........

It may be Polyester but I could swear that it said Epoxy resin. I'm going by there in a few minutes and I'll check. Thanks

The small tube of hardner is polyester but the ratio mix is epoxy. If you are doing a big job i would just go ahead with a good polyester. Hibond.net for there premium resin they have a gallon for thirty six dollars. I just got some to do a transom on my boat. They manufacture the resins themselves and have a couple locations around the country. Their epoxy is just under 100 for a gallon.
