Help with Evinrude Power Pilot(?) problem

I have an old Checkmate runabout with a 115 hp Evinrude 1979 model 115999R outboard motor and an Evinrude Power Pilot control box. The control box has been deteriorating after 30 years of sun and weather and recently the motor will no longer start. It turns over most of the time, but seems the electric choke won't engage any more and whatever other problems. I want to sell the boat for $500 but the only replacement control box I saw is $400, making it not worth it. Can anyone suggest any sort of reasonable alternative to get it running again?

Thank you for any help!!!

Any Johnson / Evinrude control box with a big red plug will work.----Used from 73 to 95 model years.---Should be lots of them around.

If your only problems are electrical maybe you could replace just the ignition switch. With something like the Sierra Marine MP41000.

There is more to it than that. There's a plastic slide on the handle that you pull up to put it in gear and that has broken off. If I can find a reasonably priced replacement it would be best to replace the whole control box. Thank you for the suggestion!

I don't really know how to search for that. The one I've got doesn't have a big red plug that I have seen. Where is it located?

The plug is connected at the motor if you take the hood off you will see it

At $500 for boat, motor and trailer, I wouldn't think it necessarily needs to be running. You could do a compression check if it cranks. With decent compression, battery that holds a charge, cosmetically decent, trailer with decent tires, registration/titles, you can probably get a buyer for it as is. There is some market for Checkmates as a brand, I think.
