I am the owner of a 1986 procraft with a 110 hp evinrude. I think i may have a possible head gasket problem. On the two starbord side cylinders i had low compression witch made me think that a headgasket was broken. I took off the cylender head and there was not a major head gasket problem. The second issue that tipped me off to a head gasket issue was the fact that the exhaust holes on the rear of the motor had water mist coming out. Being an automotive tech I used logic that this could not be normal. The cylender walls and pistons seem to be in good shape. I dont understand how the exhaust system works with exhaust holes above the water line and exhaust that comes out the prop. How do exhaust gaskets work and where are they at? Any help would be wonderful. I had a similar problem over the summer and the marina told me it was a broken head gasket on the port side. That is wh y i am leaning towards the head gasket again for the starboard side/

thanks jody

It's normal to have water coming out the exhaust relief holes. In fact, you have a problem if there isn't water coming out there.

To add: In a car, the cooling water keeps recirculating. In an outboard it is used once and dumped back into the lake....but first it is mixed with the exhaust to keep that area cool. You know how hot the exhaust parts get in a car, think how it would be to have that hanging on your transom.
