That looks like a Gale built Sea King, Hong.

If the model number is really GG88CAA it is Gale built, but I don't know the year.

Re: Help with identifying a motor.

Double check the model number. It should be GGnnnnA where n's are numbers. 8804 would be a 1960. 8962 would be a '58 or '59, etc.

Re: Help with identifying a motor.

"Sea Kings" were made by a variety of makers. The Gale built 3 hp is almost identical to the JohnnyRude 3s, which were the best small outboards ever built by anyone for any label.

There are great Sea King engines and there are others not so great or even terrible.

To know anything about a Sea King other than it being sold by Wards you must know who made it.

Re: Help with identifying a motor.

Thanks all for the replies. Yeah the model # is either GG8804A or GG880AA. I will continue my research now that I have more information about the motor. Thanks for all the help.

Hong

Re: Help with identifying a motor.

Ahhhh. Okay, that makes it a 1960.

Use a 24:1 fuel mix, Champion J4C plugs gapped at .030" and set the points at .020"

Most parts from a Johnny JW series will fit, and a Manual for a Johnny JW or Rude 3HP from late 50s-early 60s will cover most service procedures.

Good luck. :)
