Hello All

I recently finished my flooring project. I cut out templates of my flooring in my 1999 Four Winns Vista 258 and glued Allure vinyl flooring to them. They will then be installed in spring. I am going to cover the sides of he hull with oak trim painted white. My question is to you is what can I use to cover the bilge area shown in the above picture where the stained carpet is. I assume once I rip it off there will be a fiberglass wall. I was thinking of gluing on a piece of wood painted white to match the rest of the trim or even a piece of laminate like you use on cabinet refacing to cover it up. Any ideas or suggestions on how to finish off my project would be great. I really don't want to use a piece of carpet.

It would seem their are plenty of choices-- The experts may have more to add

New carpet ,
Vinyl and foam over plywood,
Gelcoat over fiberglass
Machinable plastic like Starboard

are all worth a look.

Near the floor something that would dry out easily or not absorb water at all is best. Once away from the floor padding under Vinyl is OK and often used in pleasure boats.

A few comments for consideration:

Carpeted and padded surfaces are often used as a safety precaution -- if someone loose their balance etc.

Oak plywood is often interior grade and will fail if exposed to moisture -- You may want something thats an exterior grade like MDO or marine plywood.

OK I should have written that the trim I selected is not oak, I know its very hard wood that resists water , I also coated it with a mold resistant paint. I understand the issue of moisture and wood, but the trim will be well above where any water could potentially pool. And if I find in a year or two its not working I can rip it off and replace quite easily. I had the wood in the house so thought why not....Thanks or the ideas on the space before the aft cabin...... will look at these options.
