Greetings,
We were given a Johnson Sea-Horse 10 Hp Model QD-14A.
We are newbies to this boating business but we are hooked. We love fishing and the water.
The motor was started 2 years ago after sitting for 5 years in a basement. I was told it started fine. We would like to use it.
What would you suggest to do before trying to pull the cord to start it? And is there a good book to use as reference for maintenance for this motor?
Thank you

Remove spark plugs and spray some fuel/oil mix in side spark-plug holes. Just a few squirts is all that's needed!. With spark-plugs removed and making sure it's in natural, pull rope a few times. If you have a compression gauge, check it. Providing it's good, now check for spark with spark tester. Should jump 3/8" and have a snap sound. If good, pull lower drain/fill plug and check for water and or any metal floating in oil. If there's a problem, you will know. If no problem, reinstall spark-plugs with new. fill a tank or clean trashcan with water, Put outboard in it and use the outside of tank or garbage-can like your transom. Add fuel tank with fresh fuel/oil mix, pump squeeze bulb to prime it and start it in neutral. If motor starts, make sure impeller is pumping water. If not, renew impeller.! Good luck and welcome to iboats. Post back results.
