Re: Help with launching etiquette

I want to avoid pissing people off. Maybe I need a "Newbie Boater" sign in the window of the truck :p

What you need to do is teach your wife how to operate the boat or drive the truck/trailer. Besides it helping in the whole launch/loading process, it will give her a boost of self-confidence. Never underestimate what a female can do. She needs to learn the process incase something would happen to you... lets say you broke your leg jumping out of the boat and its a weekday and nobody is around to help... wouldn't it be nice to know that your wife could do everything she needs to do in order to get you and the boat off the water?

Good points re. reasons why the significant other should become competent. I think I'll get my wife up to speed this season (2nd season) With her, it's the vehicle that worries me, not the boat handling. At least our kids are a bit older though which helps. Safety for little ones certainly takes priority over everything else, imo.

Good luck this spring! I can't wait (it's snowing again...)

If I teach mine to much she's likely to toss me overboard and leave me as musky food.

One thing we did until everyone was comfortable was to bring along another adult who could either drive the vehicle or the boat. Definitely use the fenders, definitely avoid high peak times until you've refined your system, but definitely don't put the kids in the boat with your wife in sole charge until she has built up her confidence. It shouldn't take too long. Good luck
