Re: Help With Motor Mounts Pics!!!

looks like it works, sure its not pretty, but if it aint broke dont fix it. Its a huge job to fix and for what gain?

the only thing that i dont like is that bolt on the angle, looks like its loose.

it does make me wonder why it is like that. can you give us some background?

looks to me there was an alignment problem. fixed the shade tree way. i would check all the mounts. also could be the engines or mounts were changed in the last 31 years.

hi there and thanks again, this was like that when I bought the boat last year and the bolts look loose but they good (NOT loose) The guy who I bought the boat he said that this wasnt the engine that came with the boat so I was thinking that they fixed like that due to aligment But Im worried about the wood getting rotten is good for now but for how long? thanks again all you guys.

I doubt they properly attached the raw wood to the stringer. Keep the bilge dry.

Good Luck.

What is the proper method to space the motor mount brackets up?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Help With Motor Mounts Pics!!!

usually you are only talking a 1/4 of an inch or so when adjusting the engine, and you just adjust the bolts on that shaft mounted to the wood. but they dont have enough travel to lift an engine that far. What he did is the correct way, but he didnt spend any time making it look nice or protecting the wood.:p

Re: Help With Motor Mounts Pics!!!

You may want to double check the wiring in the photo background.

The red wire (battery cable?) looks like it might use a wire brushing and a thin covering of dielectric grease applied once the connector is tighten down.

The mount looks like it will do the job, but if it's going to be on your mind you may want to make the recommended fixes so that you can enjoy your boat.

Re: Help With Motor Mounts Pics!!!

That is a aweful repair and i would fix it properly if not at least unbolt the mounts and lift engine enough to brush some resin on it but its your call and i doubt the lag bolts are long enough to go through all the extra wood and if not then the engine will move around some and eventually take out the gimble bearing
