Well I need to change all my belows, water pump, and trim limit switch.

as I understand I will order all parts for a pre-alpha. My problem with the trim limit switch. would a side mounted one fit in place of the top mounted one. I just cannot find them on sale. Most propably not!!:(

Any advise on removing the hinge pin. It is different from the alpha 1.
I found the following tools, that I beleive will be necessary. Here is the link
http://www.mercstuff.com/hingepintool.htm
Is the 5/8 Dowell Puller #1 is the correct one? or #2 is better in doing the job? Anything else I will need? I hope I can find replacement pins.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Re: help with my outdrive!

You can not use the side mount TL switch on that unit. The only puller i have used is the slide hammer type but I suppose either would work fine. If the hinge pins are not damaged all you need is the aluminum nail that is shown in the ad with the tools. Also some of those early bellows were smooth on the gluing surface the later ones have a rib they are not interchangeable. take yours off before you order a new one. Good Luck and have fun Bill

Re: help with my outdrive!

Well that what I was thinking:
Will change the Gimball Bearing
All the Belows
Complete Water Pump Assembly

What I didn't know if I should change the shift cable. What would be the indication that I should change that one.

I was thinking of getting some tools. I need some advise on the selection. I found this on ebay: Alignment, Gimbal install

Slide Hammer

Bellow expander

as well as the hinge pin extractor.

Will I need special tools for the water pump? ... need to check that!!!

If someone have a better tool, or you think I am missing a tool that I will need, maybe a cheaper one please let me know.

Re: help with my outdrive!

i managed to strip everything out with normal hand tools right down to the gimbal bearing which i believe had never been removed.the trim limit switch i got to after removing ring too.my lower pin was seized too and was a pain to get out .just pulls down after removing split pin.being british, parts r not readily available and the trim limit switch could only be found in u.s and i wasn't gonna pay $100 for it.so when eventually removed it was re.wired with.silicon grease put inside as the only reason they give up is copper contacters inside get oxidised.painted my 1974 drive up with hammerite smooth spray cans and still good today.gimbal bearing and boots were changed too.time scale.give it a couple of days if never done anything like this before.after that an afternoon when you know all will be greased regularly.n.b.nearly everything has to be removed to get to the switch.did not disconnect my rams from hydraulics just tied them up with a bungy and shift cable was left attached just pulled ring down.expect some cursing and skinned knuckles but your own time will be experience.only tool i purchased was engine alignment tool & a large set of circlip pliers as my model needed one to be compressed.bodged up gimbal puller
