help with older Johnson won't shift what year?

I have an older Johnson. I believe the model is RK 25 D or RK 25 O very hard to tell. the ser number is 2309128. Motor cranks and runs good but wont shift into forward or reverse without problems. sometimes it shifts and sometimes not or takes a while then jerks in. I would like to get a manual and see if I can work on it. thanks

i think it is a 1963 40 hp from the model number

Electramatic Shift. #1 Prime suspect--The shift switch in the remote control. New ones are over $400 at the dealer.

I think your right on the 1963. I looked at one of the manual sites and the letters didnt match for 64. Ok next question?? is this a repair that a non expert can undertake on this motor? someone suggested the remote switch. where is that located?

Shift switch is in the Electramatic remote control.
