I have a 1988 Yamaha ELG 40 2 stroke. As far as I know it's the original prop (or it was, until we ran it over some rocks this weekend :( ). Looking for a replacement and can't really figure out where to get one. Tried Crowley, but they said the ones on their site 'should' fit, but I should consult a prop shop. The one on there measures is Aluminum , about 10 inches diameter and 3 blades. I just want a replacement for the original, which I believe was just a general use prop, nothing fancy. When I removed it the only markings I found where on the back inside, and were 10 x 15 G

Any thoughts on what might be the right prop and where I can find one (or a refurbished one?

Tag shows:
MOdel 40ELG
Code 6H4 L
Serial 413586

Thx in advance

When getting a new or changing a prop, it is healthiest for the engine to get one that fits in the max rpm operating range of your motor. What was the max wot rpm of your motor before hitting the rocks ? Your going to spend the same amount of money for a prop, whether it is the right one or the wrong one ! Might as well get the best one so your motor can make use of its power. Dia and pitch are the two main measurments. Pitch is most critical, as that controls the max rpm your engine will turn. To much pitch causes low rpm and makes your motor lug and use more fuel. To little of pitch will allow the motor to over rev and cause damage. To get the best performance from your motor a good working tach is a must.

Thx for the input. For my uses, I'm just trying to find the stock replacement. I don't have a tach. I did find the 10x15 G means 10 in dia. , 15 deg pitch and a 'G' .... I'm still not sure. I've seen it stated it's the 'cup' of the prop and I've seen it stated that it means it fits a 3.5 in Yamaha gear case. I've tried contacting Yamaha on this as well, but that is like a black hole when it comes to any old 2-smoke outboards (if it ain't a 4 stroke, it doesn't exist :( I guess

There is very little chance of finding the ORIGINAL prop size. You do not know if yours is correct. You really need someone experienced with that type, size and hp range to help you.
Can a prop shop salvage the prop ?

Expand your search, I have a 1992 Mercury 40 to two stroke and parts are easy to find. There is no such thing as a stock prop, out boards do not come with a prop, you order the one needed to match your boat and how it will be used. Tach's are cheap and a valuable tool to get the best output and prevent damage to your motor. Gotta know that max rpm at wot to know which prop is correct.
