Hi

I trying to start a pre-1977 OMC stern drive with a ford engine. I would like to know how to hook water intake to engine for cooling so that engine can be started on dry land, Unfortunately boat is too old and does not have ports for ears to fill with water.

Does anybody know how to hook this up

Thank You

Re: Help with OMC stern drive water intake

Welcome to iboats! I have a 1975 OMC 175 (302 ford) so I can help ya here. First of all, do you have a manual (owners or shop)? If not get one, you'll need it. I think there's a Seloc manual you can download in the Adults Only forum to start with.

The water pickup on these units (I have one too) are above the prop behind the rudder tab so you can't use muffs. There is an accessory flush kit that was made for running on a hose. It is a pivot endcap with a female hose fitting. Red arrow in pic points to the endcap. I have the adapter on the starboard side on mine.

Otherwise you'll have to get a large drum to submerge the leg in and run the hose into that. Read through the forums and you'll find alot of info and helpful people here. Welcome aboard! :D

Oh yeah, don't let the black anchor (merc) crowd bother you. They're (mostly) harmless. ;) :D

Thanks Kindly. Is that manual a pdf copy or is it a physical book delivered. I need to make minor repairs to the engine but I don't have time to wait on shipping of the actual manual.

Can anyone suggest a site that sells digital copies of the manual for this stern drive?

Thank You
