I'm in the middle of redoing the 3 two-barrel carbs for my 88 'rude 150hp. There are two metal contact lens looking things that came with the kit, are these supposed to replace the two round things in the plugs.jpg (the one with question marks...pics aren't to scale)? The ones on the carb don't look as rounded as the ones in the kit. If so, how do you get them out of the carb?

Also, is there something I'm supposed to remove behind these lead shot looking things in the removeable.jpg? In diagrams, it looks like there is some sort of metering/idle jets screwed in place of these. Thanks for the help.

Re: Help with rebuild

you can simply drive a sharp awl or nail through the round disk and pry them out. When you put the new ones in use something like a wratchet extension and tap them back in place convex side out. They will expand into the recess to make a good seal

Re: Help with rebuild

Leave the lead plugs alone. Be careful when removing the core plugs, the machined surface inside is very easy to scratch, impairing the efficiency of the carburetor.

Re: Help with rebuild

I've got the carbs back on, and am doing the link and synch, but I think I've noticed a problem.

Is the cam supposed to return fully to it's start postion on its own? After adjusting the cam follower, and then using either the cam itself or the throttle, it will not return back to the start position, which leaves the butteflies still open a bit. I've moved the cam follower completely out of the way and it still does not return. It almost feels like the teleflex for the throttle linkage is sticky.....the inner tube does not want to go back in the shaft easily? An thoughts?

88 'rude, 150hp.
