I feel like I'm waiting for Godot here. I want to hear he got the plug out and how he finally got it!

Re: Help with spark plug that won't come out

Well, after 3 days and countless torn up sockets trying to get the easy out to work I came to the conclusion after taking off the exaust manifold and getting a clear look at it that it is never going to come out and if I break off the easy out, I will be screwed because it is hardened steel and can't be drilled. The threads from the plug are the same height as the threads in the manifold, so it will never move. I think I am stuck on the manifold threads also. Not sure if that makes sense.
I have taken it to an auto shop that says they will look at it. Told them I wanted it drilled and tapped with a heli-coil. It might be Monday before I know if they can do it. I didn't want to risk the drilling and getting crap in the cylinder. I'll let you know when it is done. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Thanks for all the suggestions

Well, I took it in and they are working on it. He got a small tap in there and he is increasing the size until he gets to the right size. Of course I pick the only shop in Pensacola that isn't open on Saturday and he couldn't finish it today. It will be Monday before I get it back. Should be good to go then. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Great bunch of people here willing to help out. Hope I can help someone someday,

Jim

I know this won't help you much, for that I appoligize,But because of the engine you are working on if i was close enough to do this for you I would have and garanteed the result. no heli-coil, or rethread of any kind necessary, I have done lots of these over 40 years and never been beat yet, I simply cut them out with an oxy-acetylene torch, clean the threads with a tap, profusely clean the debree out of the cylinder install the new plug with anti-sieze, install the rest of the related parts and carry on doing what ya started to.
Even on a saturday.
I hope you succeed and enjoy your boat
