I noticed that my steering cable was quiite a pain the arse to get out of my old motors mount. Today when mounting my new motor the cable got "stuck" about 1/2 way through the bracket. Ive been whacking on it with wood and a hammer for hours and it's almost through, but I cant seem to get it to move the last 1" or so.

Is there something that I'm missing here? Should this thing be so hard to get through?

We run a 1/2-3/4" bottle brush through the tube to clean out all the junk prior to installing a new cable.

get a wood dowel and drive it back out and clean the tube.

Even if you were to get it beaten the rest of the way through you wouldn't be able to steer it. Get it back out and take care of the problem.

You said "new" motor. Is it actually new? If used, the tube may have a buildup of rust inside that needs to be cleaned out. If it is a new motor, then I would suspect the cable end is bent.

something is major wrong, take it back out as mentioned, when it is out be sure to operate it,check and see that the Inner rod is not bent,if you have a new engine ,there is no reason why a good cable, with a bit of grease wont slip into that tube with no resistence.Unless of course there is a bug nest inside .I have used a long 1/2 inch masonary bit and reamed out the yube, you can also get smaller round brushes as another poster mentioned and polish up the tube.but if the engine is new, that should not be necessary.let us know what you find, thats how we learn

I am new to this too. I just got done replacing my cable and after honing out my tilt tube. My new cable slid in like butter. I had to remove my motor to get it to the right angle for it to slide in. Having to use anything but minimal effort might mean something could be getting damaged.Read the Thight Steering thread, or steering really stiff tread. Thats where I got my answers. Thanks to mikesea and F R, and some other really helpful folks. good luke 8)8)8)
