Hi guys, so to start off with.

I am working on a "Sunray 233 I believe it to be a 1971-1976 era boat, with a Ford 351CI (233hp) engine. V8" with a MC-1 Stern drive.

I have a Alpha Gen 1 Gimble and transome plate out on my work bench, from a boat that didnt make it :D

A few of you suggested that I take the Gimble off my winter project, and my muscle hate you for it!

I am having problems getting my Exhaust Bellow (i think this is what its called its a T junction that the 2 elbows connect too, and connect to the gimble housing) off.

so, I have moved the engine back, and got the exhaust Elbows off. there was 3 allan key style per elbow. and I got 4 bolts off the exhaust bellows. I cant see directly where the T is, the engine is kind of in the way. I would like to move it, but its not an option right now.

I know I have the 4 bolts off, but the sucker wont budge.

I have tried with a block of wood and a ballpean hammer, the gimble housing is loose, so I have tried hauling on it, to get the banging around to break it loose, but no go.

its almost like there is a 5th bolt, or something that is holding on to it. I dont have a picture atm , as much as I would like, I forgot my cammera.

I was considering using a chisel and a hmmer to break the seam, I can see it. but I didnt want to push too hard for fear I missed something.

when I look at my Alpha Gen 1 Gimble. it all looks identicle

so , AM I missing something? is it possible for the seam to be that tight it wont let loose?

is there something special about the MC-1 I dont know about?

does anyone have a clear parts blow up of the gimble and those exhaust?

short of hammering with a chisle in the seam, or using a crowbar with a wood block on the gimble housing (from the outside) does anyone have a suggestion?

please and thanks

after you remove the exaust Y pipe, there are 8 botls/nuts to be removed before the housing comes off the transom.

Re: Help with taking off the Gimble housing.

I have the 8 bolts removed, the gimble housing moves in and out of the transome pretty freely, there is about 4-5 inches of travel at the top, and only about 1 inch at the Y pipe,
I can pretty much put my finger all the way around behind the gimble housing from the outside of the boat.

Where I am stuck is, that the Y pipe almost feels Welded to the gimble housing. but the 4 bolts are removed, I can feel around on the inside and feel the 4 holes.

ya need service manual #2 at the very least. covers them years ya stated. http://boatinfo.no/lib/library.html best i can come up with for on line. maybe someone can link to the pdf.
while, i've never done the job. best i can do for ya is read the procedure. the first thing it says to do is remove the drive and engine. seems like it'd be a drag to have the engine in place. maybe remove the engine and you'll have more room to work on the exhaust separator. that's the name of the part with the 4 cap screws holding it on. sounds like ya got them off. the pics in the s/m just show a couple of o rings between the exhaust separator and the transom plate. best i can do for ya.. the service manual could be a wealth of info for what your doing... ;)

Re: Help with taking off the Gimble housing.

AI had the SELCO manual with me today, but now I see that it wasnt enough.

as mentioned, the #2 service manual shows the elbows on page 423, and I see the 5th bolt now.

the engine is out of place by 4 inches, it was the best I could do , I need a engine hoist to move it further back, and well its tarped and covered for the soon to arrive snow.

once the snow melts I plan to bring it home from were it is so I can put it back together properly, and I should have better facilities.

My Dad is a Cabinet maker 2 hours from where I live, he doesnt always have the right tools for what I am doing.

Cant wait to get this over, its the 3rd or 4th trip to my dads so far to do this.
