Hi guys,

I just finished reinstalling my merc 140hp but was left with one wire i didn't document. It runs from a relay/solenoid and appears to be a ground (i assume because its relatively thick, black and has a large terminal ring on one end). It is the thicker wire running from where my finger is pointing to.

I took photos as i removed everything and can see this was never connected to the battery.. i can't find anywhere it may have been removed from but i assume somewhere on the block.

Can anyone ease my concern and confirm it is a ground wire? I accidentally grazed the positive on the starter with it and it made plenty of sparks.. no sparks after grounding it.

thanks!

Ayuh,..... My guess is to the ground stud on the flywheel cover/ block, where the battery ground cable goes,.....

Check for a wire that size coming from the pump motor If none, connect that wire from the pump motor body to ground. The smaller Black wirs are ok for a solenoid ground but not large enough for the draw from the pump.
