Help with Timing

Hey guys I'm really having a hard time with my volvo penta 5.0 GI "PBYCCE". I'm trying to set the timing with the timing shunt p/n 885163 but for some reason when I plug in the B+ it cuts off the fuel completely and I'm unable to set the timing. I kept trying but nothing is happening. Can someone please help me shed a light on this? did I get the wrong part? Am I doing something wrong?

For one thing, you don't use the shunt with an EFI engine, only carbed engines. You need to put the ECM into base timing mode. Download and look at the electrical and ignition manual page 5.7
