Help with Transom repair.. Stringers??

Hey Everyone. Well I picked up a 19' Silverline V hull boat with 100hp Johnson for 600 bux. I am NEW to boats so I had to take a lot of the guys advice. BAD IDEA found out the transom was rotted. So found seacast and drilled, chainsawed and cleaned out the transom. Glassed the bottom skin on the inside and the outter skin is in good condition. Ready to pour this weekend.

Question is.. WHat about my floor. I'm 240 and a buddy of mine is 300+ The floor is glassed with wood underneath. We walked and bounced all over the boat, even at theseat mounts and didn't get much at all for any flexing. Also I checked teh rollers on the trailer and they were not even denting the outter bottom of the boat. Should I be worried about the stringers?

My honest opinion is....you're prepped and ready for SeaCast. Get that put in, and don't go looking for other problems. Take care of your new boat and keep it covered and stored bow high. If soft spots in the deck show up later, deal with them at that time. Good luck with it. I think you got a great deal on a boat that looks like it can handle some big water.

If the floor is solid the stringers aren't suspect.
Don't forget to brace the transom, the weight of the seacast will make it bulge outwards unless you thru-bolt it to hold its shape.
Mine ended up 3 inches thick.
Use the outboard bolt holes, you're going to drill those out anyway.

You got the boat cheap, theres always a reason, but transom will never rot again and its a selling point in the future.

Before you pour, crawl under the splashwell and inspect the rear wall, seal any holes or cracks now.

When we used the chainsaw we did cut through the bottom of the inner glass shell a bit so we put down 3 layers of chop mat and resin and re attached it to the floor. Also jammed a pipe where the drain hole is so thats a good thing..

We also patched any holes on the inside with chop matt and resin. I don't like the chance of using duct tape...

One question I do have. The motor mount bolt holes that are there now will not be the ones I will be using as the dumb ***** that had the boat before me did'nt even have the motor mounted. The Johnson was not the original motor.. I have a 175HP Merc now I will be putting on after the transom is done. Could I drill new holes for the bolts to go in now to hold the transom square and then fill them after with short strand fiberglass? I plan to sand the back of the boat and re paint the brown lines to something a little more pleasing... Then I am getting a piece of 1/4" Aluminum cut and bent to go on the back to distribute the load better.

Thoughts?

I am new to this type of boat. You say big water.. I planned on doing a lot of innerbay fishing and playing but I would like to do some walleye trolling and maybe lake trout. This size of boat should be ok for that???

I would certainly think so. It's got nice high sides, closed bow (can't quite tell) and a huge splashwell.

Thats good to know. Again new to boating and stuff. Can't wait to go out and play. More pics to come as we progress. I will get some more tonight and post tomorrow.
