Help with year and info!

I was given a Evinrude outboard from my brother in law and am trying to find out the year and any other info! The plate is missing so I don't have the serial number. It is a 6hp and there is a number on the carb is 38866. The only other number I could find is a small silver circle plug looking thing on the right side of the engine. Part of it is scratched but it looks like a 0057643! Any ideas?

That welch plug that you described should hold the model number on it, but the number you provided doenst seem to make sense.

You dont have any pics of it do you? Description of the cowl? Colour?
