Help with year?

Hi I’m struggling to identify exactly what year my newly acquired mercury model 402 is the serial number is 7086635 and does have Canada written on the tag.

According to mastertech marine it's a 1977 model.

Thanks for responding do you feel that’s pretty accurate I’ve just been told a few different years

The 1977 models start at 7086373 and 1978 starts at 7112423.

Ok thank you would this be a Canadian model then based on the serial number and what’s written on the tag and is there much of a difference in part compatibility between Canadian and U.S. model?

Yes it's a Canadian model. I don't think there is any major differences with US models. It appears that parts are grouped with serial numbers from 1975 thru 1977 for both Canadian and US models.
