Man that sucks! Well man thats a tuff one. Um i think you should really consider this really hard but i mean if you get this fixed there is still a posibility that water can still get in. So..... i mean thats up to you i know that its hard. And i really don't know what the cost is. Did the Mechanic say where the water was coming from?

What he is entitled to charge is according to how deep he has gone into the motor. Does he have the pistons out? Then he should get just as much for his time as if he had put new ones in. Actually, if it were me, I'd refuse to put faulty parts back in. Either fix it right or take it home in a box.

What hp and year motor do you have? Did he say where the water was coming from? If this is a big hp motor I would think $1000 wouldn't be that bad at all with all the labor involved. He will stand by his work with new pistons and seals, right? If you mean he said it may not last long even with new pistons and such, I sure wouldn't do it. I'd fix the water problem and get a good used powerhead.

Sounds like from both of your posts that both ends are bad. Might be time to rethink your options.
