I just got me a 1976 135 evinrude. It dies when I go to take off under a load. Works fine on muffs. I've rebuild the carbs, changed coil packs, got the right spark plugs for it. New fuel lines, fuel pump, new gas tank with vent. It's gotta be somthing stupid. Bc it runs great on the muffs. hope someone has some good advice thanks.

It just sounds good on the muffs to the untrained ear.-----I suggest you do a compression test.---Follow that with a test for spark.-----Good spark on those will jump up to a 1/2" gap.----Might be running on 3 of 4 cylinders.

Do you think powerpack could cause this? I'm gonna do the compression text this weekend

Sorry-----The above testing must be done by you.

For spark while running the motor (muffs if you like), use a timing gun to see if there is no feed on one or more of the spark plug leads. If you seem to have spark (i.e., the test lamp lights up), you need to measure spark to determine strength of the ignition system. Do this with an adjustable, open air tester (about $10 or so at an auto parts store). Try for 1/2 inch, sharp spark (motor briefly cranked but not running -- best to remove all plugs). If you have solid spark, you still need a compression test (try to rent a tester when you buy the spark tester).
